What Is the Notice About?

Champion Home Builders, Inc. (Champion) has determined that the material installed as underlayment beneath the shingles at the lower eave areas of the roof may not meet performance requirements and may not comply with an applicable Federal Manufactured Home Construction or Safety Standard. A defect may exist. Some homes built at our Topeka, IN building facility between 2016 and 2020 with a specific brand of underlayment have experienced consequential deterioration of the roof decking at the lower areas of the eaves. What Remedy Is Available?

Champion will voluntarily inspect your home free of charge to determine if deterioration is present. Champion will repair or compensate for any home found to contain deterioration related to the underlayment. For any home inspected but, no visible deterioration found, then Champion will take a preventative action and seal an area along the eaves. If any homeowner/Retailer has already experienced and paid for a previous repair due to a performance failure in the lower area of the eaves, then reimbursement will be made with the proper documentation and submission to Champion for the affected areas. What Are My Options?

• If you wish for Champion to arrange an inspection, please contact the Champion Service Department via the Inspection/Reimbursement Request page. Champion will honor a request for an inspection and/or repair for a period of one year from the date of the notice.
• You, as the owner, may submit a complaint to the Secretary of H.U.D. if you believe: the notification or remedy described therein is inadequate; the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy the problem in accordance with this notification; or the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy the problem within a reasonable time after the owner’s first attempt to obtain remedy. Any actions taken by the manufacturer under the Act in no way limit the rights of the owner or any other persons under any contract or other applicable law and that the owner may have further rights under contract or other applicable law.
